Sustainable Communities
Standing in a large field in Zimbabwe I looked into the eyes of an amazing leader as he spoke. “We are simply looking for someone to help us stand on our own two feet”. That trip changed the way I looked at missions.
Our heart is to do “hand ups” not “hand outs”. Yes we will send resources. Yes we will fund projects. We will also work to coach and encourage our global contacts to establish sustainability initiatives.
This is not a cookie cutter one size fits all. We rely on impact from around the world to help discover (sometimes through trial and error) what can work in a region to give them sustainablity. I’ve seen chicken coops, frog farms, coffee shops and book stores. This is not just something we want to see oversees but at home as well. We have sustainability goals for our U.S. counterpart organization as well.
